Our Story

Trout River is a quiet fishing village of approximately 650 people, situated on the southern end of Gros Morne National Park. We are surrounded by beauty - from the famous Tableland Mountains, a world UNESCO site, to our beach on the Atlantic Ocean. Our school, Jakeman All Grade School, is in the heart of our community. People here have held on to traditions like raising animals and growing food for their families. There is no playground here, no place for the children to climb and swing and slide, no place for teens to play ball or for parents with young children to socialize. We want to change this. Trout River has faced much adversity - most recently, a landslide which devastated the homes of 6 of our families - this playground is a positive move for us; a real shot in the arm! With the Helping Hands Award we will make our community a better place for all our citizens, especially our children!

We invite you all to come out and volunteer on our Build Day, September 25th. Click on the Join the Effort button to register now.
